Balkan Hope Foundation

Obedient Life Ministries established the Balkan Hope Foundation in Bulgaria in 2004. We did this as a means to mobilize our ministry, and to partner with local officials, agencies, and other ministries in helping to meet the needs of the region. We have set up a base in the city of Sevlievo in central Bulgaria to carry out humanitarian work with orphans and the poor. In the future we are looking to expand further into the Balkan Peninsula and Eastern Europe, and pursue other mission-based initiatives.

Foster Parenting BG

Beginning in October, 2007, we began working with the Ombudsman of Bulgaria (Protector of Citizen’s Rights) on a project to help implement a foster parenting program on a greater scale nationally. This is a project that addresses the many processes necessary to recruit, screen, and train foster parent and to successfully match them with a foster child.

Our vision for “Honey in the Rock” is to offer the children excellent care and education in a family-style Christian environment. It will not only be a safe place to house, feed, and care for children (infancy through eighteen years of age) who are orphaned or whose parents are not able to adequately care for them. We will also offer educational opportunities (elementary, secondary, and vocational), family support services, foster family and adoption placements (domestic and international) as Bulgarian law allows.

Future project to assist orphans and abandoned children who have aged out of the system in Bulgaria.

Our wish is to not only provide excellent care for the children until they complete their secondary education and are of legal age, but our goal is also to help establish them as responsible adults and good citizens. To accomplish this we will also offer an extended residency program for young people entering adulthood (ages eighteen to twenty), including career counseling, vocational training, and post-secondary schooling. This extended program will give these young adults the support that is so vital for successful living, yet often missing in the lives of such individuals who have little or no real family structure in their lives.
